FAQs

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, you can come directly to Rivertown Physical Therapy for a diagnosis and treatment. We will do an initial evaluation to understand your current health condition, the injury or issue you need addressed and your goals for treatment. At that time we will determine if we have the information we need to create a treatment plan or if we need additional diagnostics, x-rays, or other information from another medical provider.

Do you take insurance?

Rivertown Physical Therapy will provide you with a "superbill" that shows the cost and services you received which you provide to your insurance company for reimbursement. We are considered "out-of-network" care. Those with insurance usually receive 50-80% reimbursement from the insurance company. Insurance plans vary widely, so please consult with your insurance provider directly if you have questions about their coverage for out-of-network physical therapy.

The first step is to schedule an initial evaluation. Once you have scheduled that appointment, you will receive a link in your email with instructions for your appointment and a link to a secure portal where you will fill out the intake forms. These forms are essential for us to understand your condition and fully prepare for your visit.

How do I get started as a new patient?

Why don't you take insurance?

Despite the medically proven benefits of physical therapy, insurance sometimes views it as a cost rather than as an important part of recovery from surgery, injury recovery, the prevention of injury, and the prevention of costly, painful surgery. We have worked with patients long enough to know that just providing patients with a list of exercises for them to do at home often does little to help them get back to the quality of life they want. We have seen that providing a more customized, individualized treatment gives patients the care they need to achieve their goals faster and with better outcomes.

What will happen during an initial evaluation?

What will I get from my Initial Evaluation?

You will have 3 things by the time you leave the evaluation:

1. A clear idea of what is causing your pain, mobility issues or dizziness.

2. A clear treatment plan with exercises, tips, advice, and evidence-based activities.

3. A timeline and next steps to ensure you achieve your recovery goals.

Treatment starts with an initial evaluation that allows us to understand your condition better. Specifically, this begins with a subjective exam where we learn your story. Then an objective exam is performed utilizing movement, special tests, and observations to help further determine the origin of your pain. Then we work together to create a treatment plan that works with your life and your goals for recovery.

What are the follow up sessions like?

For the most efficient spend of your time and money, usually these sessions are not for doing your home exercises. They are for further evaluation, manual therapy or progression of your home exercise program. Exercise completion can be part of the treatment, if additional guidance on particular exercises is necessary or if the you have difficulty with doing the exercises independently.

How long should it take before I see results?

Usually with adherence to therapy treatment suggestions, patients start to see changes in 2 weeks. For substantial changes to occur it can take 4- 6 weeks. If you do not see improvement within this time period, conservative management may not be successful for you and referral to additional healthcare providers may be necessary to help you achieve your goals.
